To Much Snow

Today is the first day back from winter break.  Well, today was supposed to be the first day back.  Instead, we get one more day.  Fourteen degrees out and snowing hard, so school was canceled.
Oh well, tomorrow is the first day back from winter break.
As a trucker stops for a red light, a blonde catches up.  She jumps out of her car, runs up to his truck and knocks on the door.

The trucker lowers the window and she says, “Hi, my name is Heather and you are losing some of your load.”  The trucker ignores her and proceeds down the street.

Get Connected

This post is from Mr. McGuire .

Reading Strategies, Connect with Your Book

Good readers constantly make connections. As they read each paragraph, each page, each chapter, they relate it to their life.
Making connections to things the reader already knows helps understand what they are reading and relate to the characters and events more deeply. The purpose of connecting with text is to help use what the reader already knows to understand new information.

Here are the start to connections.

Text-to-self:
This is similar to my life . . .
This is different from my life . . .
Something like this happened to me when . . .
This reminds me of . . .
This relates to me . . .
When I read this I felt .

The Best Snow Days Ever

January 21, 2010 at 1:59 pm (Uncategorized)

The best snow day ever

The reason why  I am writing this poem is because

When we had 6.5 in. of snow and we did not have school for all most a week

that was the best day ever.

I stayed out side on some days

then my brother and I went out and  had a snowball fight.

The best thing about the snow days was making forts

and making igloos that is the best thing for the snow days.

My Post….

January 14, 2010 at 3:34 pm (Uncategorized)

This is from The Reading Workshop and Mr.McGuire’s Post.

Who are you?  Do you know yourself?  One of the greatest aspects of poetry is the way it helps the writer explore his/her thoughts, ideas, and opinions.  Feelings need to be understood and analyzed in order to express them.  This poem is an example of one author’s ideas about being famous.

Famous
Naomi Shihab Nye

The River is famous to the Fish

The loud voice is famous to silence,
which knew it would inherit the earth
before anybody said so.

The cat sleeping on the fence is famous to the birds
watching him from the birdhouse.

The tear is famous, briefly to the cheek.

The idea you carry close to your bosom
if famous to your bosom.

The boot is famous to the earth,
more famous than the dress shoe,
which is famous only to floors.

The bent photograph is famous to the one who carries it
and not at all famous to the one who is pictured.

I want to be famous to shuffling men
who smile while crossing streets,
sticky children in grocery lines,
famous as the one who smiled back.

I want to be famous the way a pulley is famous,
or a buttonhole,
not because it did anything spectacular,
but because it never forgot what it could do.

What do you want to be known for?  In what way do you want to be famous?  Rewrite the last two stanzas to reflect your view on being famous.

The two things that I want to be famous for are the things below.

I want to be famous

to other people so when they fall

down I can be there for them

when they do I can help them up.

I want to be famous

to my brother & sister

for getting in trouble

because they didn’t do there chores then I do it for them.

Merriam’s poem is good but the thing that I like about it is that the poem is wanting to make you feel like you are really eating the poem. The thing that she is talking about words because when she says biting in to it I think that she meaning yo say getting in to it and wanting to read more.

My Christmas Poem

December 18, 2009 at 4:12 pm (Uncategorized)

Christmas day…

Christmas day is coming soon

when everybody is running down the stairs to open their gifts.

Until your mom says that you need to eat your dinner first.

The best thing that I like about Christmas is when everybody comes.
